The theory of change is a methodology, often used within the not for profit sector, to ‘join the dots’ and show the links between what an organisation or specific project does and how this leads to the desired outcomes (or changes) being achieved for the beneficiaries involved.       

As it is developed, the theory of change outcomes framework allows an opportunity to clarify the types of activities or interventions which will achieve the identified goals for beneficiaries,   whether within a specific project or for an organisation as a whole.   It enables better planning and will show how changes occur.  This in turn improves evaluation as the completed framework supports the ability to measure the progress through the project’s outputs to achieving longer term aims.  

By the end of the course you should have acquired the following:

  • An increased awareness of how to use the Theory of Change model and an understanding of its benefit to your organisation
  • The ability to create a Theory of Change that can be shared with colleagues within your organisation and used for other projects
  • Clarity on the next steps required to put the process into action
