The course aims to give delegates an understanding of the main legal rules found in homelessness law and what duties local authorities have as a result. Key developments in the law will also be examined.

The course will cover:

  • Which duties are owed to which applicants and how these are met
  • Checking whether decisions are lawful
  • Understanding what is meant by the key concepts within homelessness legislation, such as Priority Need and Intentional Homelessness  
  • The rules for reviewing and appealing decisions
  • Identifying  obligations that authorities have to prevent homelessness 
  • Recognising on what basis decisions might be successfully challenged
  • Enabling you to assist in ensuring these duties are met
