6,000 babies are born in the UK with a Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), many are undiagnosed. If you work with children, adolescents or vulnerable adults you may be supporting someone with an FASD.

This course will give you an understanding of the complexities of these conditions, tools to support children and adults born with and FASD and skills to help reduce the incidence of the most commom preventable cause of learning disability in the UK.

The course will cover:

  • Definitions of FASD and its impacts
  • Exploring risk factors and the signs and symptoms
  • Recognising the impact of alcohol on the growing foetus
  • Learn about screening and harm reduction recommendations
  • Discuss some of the problems that individuals with FASD face throughout their lives
  • How to make appropriate referrals to specialist services

This course is mapped to the skills and knowledge sections of DANOS units. (Drug & Alcohol National Occupational Standards) Including units AA1, AH10, AD1 and AF1
