Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is the most common non-genetic cause of learning disability in the UK. We will explore FASD and the conditions that are covered in this umbrella term (including Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) on this one day course.

The course will cover:

  • Definitions of FASD and its impacts
  • Exploring risk factors and the signs and symptoms
  • Recognising the impact of alcohol on the growing foetus
  • Learn about screening and harm reduction recommendations
  • Discuss some of the problems that individuals with FASD face throughout their lives
  • How to make appropriate referrals to specialist services

This course is mapped to the skills and knowledge sections of DANOS units. (Drug & Alcohol National Occupational Standards) Including units AA1, AH10, AD1 and AF1
