This course is for anyone involved in the care and support of individuals who may lack capacity to make a particular decision.

The course will look at the legal and value base of issues connected with capacity and deprivation of liberty. It will inform you of up and coming changes to the law and guidance and will use case studies and scenarios to ensure the link with everyday practice is established.

 

By the end of the session, participants will: 

  • Be aware of their legal responsibilities under the Mental  Capacity Act & the implications for their practice 
  • Understand the principles of the Mental Capacity Act & have the knowledge to apply them in their everyday practice
  • Be able to use a framework for assessing capacity and supporting and involving people when making decisions
  • Recognise how the provisions in the Act & the Code of Practice help to keep people safe and support human rights
  • Be aware of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and up and coming changes to the Liberty Protection Safeguards
