Like the rest of society there are young people who experience abuse, and require the support of practitioners to safeguard them from abuse. To ensure that the safeguarding process is effective, it is important for practitioners to have a good understanding of the issues that young people may face that could place them in abusive situations.

This course is aimed at both experienced and newly appointed frontline staff who are responsible for supporting young people between the ages of 16 and 24.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define safeguarding
  • Explain the types of abuse that young people may be exposed to
  • Explain the signs that young people may present when they are victims of abuse
  • Explain the legislation that can protect young people who are either at risk of abuse or victims of abuse
  • Identify how to respond appropriately when supporting young people who are either at risk of abuse or victims of abuse
  • Identify the responsibilities of relevant agencies when dealing with issues where a young person is either at risk of abuse or a victim of abuse
  • Explain which other agencies can offer support when dealing with issues where a young person is either at risk of abuse or a victim of abuse
