The Care Act is five years old,  going  live in April 2015.    As one of the most important pieces of adult social care legislation since the welfare state began 70 years ago, how is it going?  How are you in your role ensuring its principles are being met: to promote and enable people’s individual wellbeing in relation to their care and support needs?

This course provides an opportunity to reconnect your role and practice with the Care Act’s aims and principles.  The sessions provide a refresher of the key elements of the Act, underpinning social care practice in England today. ‚Äč (Note: the Coronavirus Act 2020 provides local authorities with options to temporarily suspend their Care Act duties;  by end of April eight local authorities had chosen to do so, though one of those only used it for a week).

The course will cover:

  • Using assessment as an intervention
  • Understanding eligibility in relation to care and support needs
  • Outcome-focused support planning
  • Adult safeguarding principles
  • Information & advice requirements
