Strengths-based (or asset-based) approaches focus on individuals' strengths (including personal strengths and social and community networks) and not on their deficits.

Strengths-based practice in adult social care is not new.  Many models and techniques have developed in recent years, including recovery model (adult mental health), three conversations (assessment and support planning), solution-focused brief therapy, ABCD (community development), etc.

This course will provide an introduction and refresher to the principles of strengths-based practice in adult social care settings, and will cover:

  • Increasing knowledge and awareness of strengths-based models
  • Enabling understanding of strengths-based practice at different stages of support including assessment and support planning
  • Exploring options to overcome barriers and challenges to strengths-based practice
  • Providing opportunities to explore strengths-based techniques

 

This is a live online (Zoom) course delivered over 2 sessions, 1 week apart, with a short interim task to be completed between sessions, to consolidate learning.
